Controversy unfolded as a racist term found its way into Pakistan’s scorecard during the Australia vs. Pakistan cricket match, prompting a swift apology from Cricket Australia.
Cricket Australia found themselves in an embarrassing situation after a significant mistake, prompting them to issue an apology quoted by journalist Daany Saeed, who initially highlighted the error, arising from a controversial incident during Pakistan’s warmup game in Australia.
During Pakistan’s pre-match practice against the Prime Minister’s XI at Manuka Oval last Wednesday, a mishap occurred that left Cricket Australia embarrassed, prompting them to issue an apology, a statement echoed by journalist Daany Saeed, the one who initially highlighted the mistake.
Saeed clarified on X that the graphic, sourced automatically from a new data provider for a Pakistan game, had not been utilized before, expressing regret for the oversight and highlighting the swift manual correction upon discovery of the error.
In a tweet, Saeed highlighted the Fox ticker’s unconventional use of “PAKI” instead of the standard “PAK,” emphasizing the gravity of the choice with a captured moment of the blunder; a reminder that ‘Paki’ is a derogatory term for individuals from Pakistan or South Asia.
Shan Masood, leading Pakistan, showcased his prowess with an unbeaten 201 in the match, guiding his team to declare the first innings at 391 for 9, while Jordan Buckingham of the Australian Prime Minister’s XI stood out, claiming 5 wickets for 80 runs, including the dismissals of Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Aamer Jamal, and Mir Hamza.
On Thursday, the Australian Prime Minister’s XI responded by reaching a score of 149 for 2 at stumps, setting the stage for Pakistan’s upcoming three Tests against Australia, with the first Test scheduled in Perth from December 14-18.
The cricket series kicks off with the initial Test in Melbourne starting on December 26-30, followed by the second Test, and concludes with the third Test in Sydney scheduled from January 3-7.
