List of Holidays in UAE – National Holidays in United Arab Emirates in 2023

Here is the list of public holidays for the year 2023  to both public and private sectors.

Government of UAE has announced list of public holidays for the year 2023 which are applied equally to the public and private sectors.

  • Gregorian New Year: 1 January
  • Eid Al Fitr: From 29 Ramadan to 3 Shawwal* (4 days)
  • Arafah day and Eid Al Adha (Feast of Sacrifice): From 9 to 12 Dhu al Hijjah* (4 days)
  • Hijri New Year (Islamic New Year): 21 July 2023
  • Prophet Mohammed’s birthday: 29 September 2023
  • National Day: 2 and 3 December (2 days).

*Note: Islamic holidays are determined according to moon sighting.

Things to be noted

  • A public holiday can be moved to the beginning or to the end of a week if it falls between two working days
  • Since 2022, the weekend is Saturday and Sunday
  • Islamic holiday exact dates are subject to moon sightings and may differ from the date given
  • Public sector workers now receive the same number of public holidays as the private sector

Dates are subject to moon-sighting and have to be confirmed by the authorities, but UAE residents can expect a 6-day break in July depending on when the moon is sighted.
