New Photos Reveal Extensive Damage to U.S. Military Positions After Iranian Strikes
WASHINGTON — Newly released photographs show extensive damage to U.S. military facilities and equipment in the Middle East following Iranian missile and drone attacks, according to an exclusive report by CBS News.
The photographs, provided to CBS News by active-duty U.S. service members on condition of anonymity, show damage at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia and at Camp Buehring and Camp Arifjan in Kuwait.
One of the most significant images shows a Boeing E-3 Sentry aircraft at Prince Sultan Air Base with its rear section severely damaged. The aircraft’s tail was reportedly severed, while the fuselage and its rotating radar system also suffered major damage.
Images from Camp Buehring, a major U.S. Army staging facility in Kuwait, show damaged buildings, barracks, vehicles and trailers. Other photographs from Camp Arifjan show damage to military structures.
The new photographs come as a U.S. Defense Department inspector general’s report details significant losses linked to the conflict. The report said U.S. forces suffered equipment losses valued at up to $3.7 billion, including damage to or destruction of nearly 60 aircraft. It also documented Iranian strikes against U.S. military facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman and Jordan.
The Pentagon did not respond to CBS News’ request for comment on the newly published photographs. The exact circumstances and dates surrounding individual images have not been publicly established for every photograph.
The release of the images provides a rare visual look at the impact of Iranian attacks on U.S. military positions in the region, while the full extent of the damage and its operational consequences remain subject to further assessment.
