Trump Announces Israel-Iran Ceasefire Hours After U.S. Base Attacked
June 24, 2025— Former President Donald Trump announced Monday that Iran and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire just hours after Iran launched missiles at a U.S. military base in Qatar in retaliation for a recent American airstrike on Iranian nuclear sites.
Trump’s statement, made via social media, claimed that both nations would initiate a “complete and total ceasefire” in a phased manner. According to the announcement, Iran is set to begin the ceasefire first, followed by Israel, with full cessation of hostilities expected within 24 hours. The former president suggested this agreement could officially end the 12-day conflict.

“It has been fully agreed… there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE,” Trump wrote, stating that military operations from both sides would conclude before the truce takes effect.
However, Iranian officials pushed back on the announcement. Iran’s Foreign Minister, Sayed Abbas Araghchi, took to social media to clarify that no formal agreement had been reached. He added that Iran was prepared to halt its military response if Israel ceased its “illegal aggression” by 4:00 a.m. Tehran time. A later update confirmed that Iranian strikes on Israel had continued until that hour.
Israel has yet to comment officially on the reported ceasefire.
In a separate interview with Fox News, Vice President JD Vance supported Trump’s peace initiative, saying the administration aims for a “long-term settlement” between the two nations. Vance characterized Iran’s recent military actions as ineffective, claiming they highlight the country’s limitations in warfare.
When asked about the location of Iran’s enriched uranium, Vance declined to provide details, instead focusing on the broader question of Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
Earlier in the day, Iranian missiles targeted U.S. installations in Qatar and Iraq. According to the Pentagon, the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar—home to U.S. Central Command’s regional headquarters—was struck by both short- and medium-range ballistic missiles. There were no reports of casualties, and Qatari defenses reportedly intercepted several incoming threats.
Trump stated that Iran had given the U.S. advance warning of the strikes, allowing for preventive measures to avoid loss of life.
“I thank Iran for the early notice,” Trump posted. “No lives were lost, and no one was injured. We’ve countered their response effectively.”
The airstrikes followed a major U.S. offensive over the weekend, during which B-2 bombers reportedly struck Iranian nuclear facilities. In response, Qatar closed its airspace, and the U.S. Embassy in Doha advised American citizens to shelter in place.
Qatar’s government strongly condemned the Iranian missile attacks. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari described the incident as a “flagrant violation” of Qatari sovereignty and international law. He confirmed the evacuation of the Al Udeid base prior to the strike and stated that Qatar reserves the right to respond in proportion to the attack.
As the situation continues to evolve, all eyes remain on whether the proposed ceasefire will hold and lead to a broader de-escalation in the region.
