Trump: Ceasefire terms with Iran still not sufficient

United States— US President Donald Trump has said the conditions being discussed for a possible ceasefire with Iran are still not sufficient.

In an interview on Saturday, Mr. Trump said that although Iran appears willing to reach an agreement, the terms currently on the table are not acceptable to him. He added that any potential deal must be “strong and clear”.

Mr. Trump also indicated that one possible condition for a ceasefire could be Iran making a full commitment to abandon its nuclear ambitions. However, he did not reveal all the conditions he may seek.

His remarks come nearly two weeks after the United States and Israel launched large-scale military strikes against Iran on 28 February.

The attacks have reportedly disrupted global shipping, pushed up oil prices and raised concerns about the impact on the world economy.

As the conflict enters its third week, analysts say the effects on global energy markets and economic stability are continuing to grow.

Mar Trump has also called on countries affected by the conflict to help keep the Strait of Hormuz secure and open.

He said several nations had pledged support to maintain security along the vital waterway, although he did not name them.

In posts on social media, Mr. Trump urged countries that receive oil shipments through the strait to pay close attention to its security. He also suggested that many nations could send warships to help ensure the route remains open.
